I believe most of us reading this can say that you have either been in a storm or heard of a storm that was devastating, shocking, or overwhelming. We have all seen the effects that storms of different magnitudes have on the landscape, possessions, and the lives of loved ones or people in general. 

We have watched as inclement weather threatened lives, whether our own or possibly the lives of someone we know. We have seen flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes, and hail. We have felt the effects of many of these types of storms.

While physical storms can be damaging, storms in the spiritual can effect more than the just the outward man. The storms of life that I am speaking of can come in many different forms with different destructive power.

You may be facing a job loss, health issues, marital problems, financial setbacks or even the loss of a loved one. All of these things are real and we have all faced some or all of them at some point in our lives. But what do you do when a storm is coming?

 

In the case of a hurricane you have enough advance warning to plan either an evacuation or stock up on supplies.

For the spiritual man if you feel a storm coming, that is not the time to quit going to church. It’s the time to stock up on prayer, praise, and fellowship, or plan the best way to evade the storm.

 

 

In the event of a tornado you seek shelter and protection as quickly as possible. It was David that said I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the House of the Lord. God’s House is the best house to weather any storm.

 

 

After the storm, is the time to survey the damage, Never run headlong into the storm if it is still raging in your life. Anchor yourself in truth. Jesus said He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and while the storm is in motion stay anchored. Then survey the damage.

It was Nehemiah that went and surveyed the broken walls of Jerusalem and no one knew what God had put in his heart to do.

(Nehemiah 2:2) In verse 17 he speaks and says you see the walls that lie in waste, come, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem.

 

Storms of life will come, but you can be prepared, you can withstand, and you can rebuild after the storms.
